Happy New Year!
New Year’s was a blast. Well in Germany it’s called Silvester after St. Silvester. We went to a party with a another group of Alex’s friends in Erfurt. We all enjoyed a nice raclette dinner and played lots of drinking games including drinking Jenga. I’m apparently not very good at Jenga because I got quite drunk. Then we headed into the square for fireworks. This part was pretty crazy to me because people were just setting off bottle rockets in the street in the crowds of people. The American in me was paranoid and nervous about it but I tried to contain it. Everyone got home with all limbs intact. The next morning we all met up again for breakfast and did a customary Silvester fortune telling game called Bleigießen. Each person picks a little lead object and melts it in a spoon with a candle. Once the lead is molten you drop it into a bowl of cold water. Whatever shape your lead comes out as has a significant meaning for your future. 🙂
